Top West Indies Players Likely to Miss Bangladesh Tour

Kieron Pollard, Jason Holder and Nicholas Pooran are among the 10 first XI West Indies players to opted out of the upcoming Tour of Bangladesh due to personal reasons and COVID-19. Kraig Brathwaite and Jason Mohammed have been appointed captains of the Test and ODI teams respectively in Holder and Pollard’s absence.

The other players to withdraw from the tour are Darren Bravo, Roston Chase, Shimron Hetmyer Shamarh Brooks, Evin Lewis, Sheldon Cottrell, and Shai Hope, while, for personal reasons, Fabian Allen and Shane Dowrich have excused themselves from the series.

Kavem Hodge, the West Indies batting all-rounder, received his maiden test call-up. Hodge, with his right-arm spin, has 1890 runs in first-class cricket and has got 45 wickets. A left-handed opener, Shayne Moseley also included within the squad. For the the Indies, Mayers has played two T20Is already. The all-rounder, Kyle Mayers, also got their maiden call-ups to the Test squad after being included as reserves for England’s tours.

Meanwhile, Kjorn Ottley, left-handed top-order batsman, and Akeal Hosein, spinning-allrounder,  have made it to the ODI squad for the first time.

Roger Harper, CWI’s Lead Selector, said: “Kavem Hodge will be on his first tour with the team. He has been around for a few years and has made a case for himself and he now gets his chance. The fact that he also bowls left arm spin has certainly helped his cause. We also have Kyle Mayers and Shayne Moseley, who have both toured with the team to England and New Zealand as reserves, being selected in the Test Squad for the first time. Moseley coming off successful ‘A Team’ games in New Zealand and Mayers who has performed well in each of the CWI regional tournaments and also the caribbean premier league 2020

The West Indies squad are scheduled to Tour Bangladesh on January 10, The West Indies squad  Play three ODIs on January 20, 22 and 25. They’ll be followed by two Test matches at Chattogram and Dhaka from February 3 and February 11 respectively.
